ReNaturalize Method Highlights Recovery of the Gualaxo do Norte River in Mariana (MG)
The ReNaturalize method, a Nature-Based Solution (NbS), is being applied to sustainably restore a section of the Gualaxo do Norte River, which was degraded by the Fundão Dam collapse in 2015. Developed in partnership with Fundação Renova, the project uses natural resources to accelerate the recovery of the river’s ecosystem.
Recently, the initiative was recognized by the Society of Environmental Toxicology and Chemistry (SETAC) and the journal Integrated Environmental Assessment and Management (IEAM), which praised the transparency, reproducibility, rigor, and relevance of the scientific article presenting the initial results. They also highlighted the ongoing efforts to advance environmental quality through science.
